Sandy was a classic rock fan with The Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Jethro Tull leading the way (with a dash of Gentle Giant and Chick Corea). In 1974, on a beautiful summer evening in Central Park, Sandy’s passion for music was launched with a concert by Hot Tuna, featuring Jorma Kaukonen playing guitar. For over 45 years, Sandy has been a devoted fan and has seen them perform in concert a zillion times .
Sandy’s dream came true when he not only met Jorma (and Jack) backstage at the Capital Theatre in Port Chester but came full circle when Sandy took lessons from his idol at Jorma’s Fur Peace Ranch in Pomeroy, OH. The highlight was having Jorma and Jack listening to HIS songs during the student concert evening!
“I would play the blues on my backyard steps for hours and hours, in the summer, trying my best to play just like Jorma. When the new neighbors moved in, Rob heard the fingerpicking and started a conversation. It wasn’t long before we were playing covers in my “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” basement. Things started to get really exciting when Rob started writing his own songs.
Just to meet Lincoln Schleifer, GE Smith, Larry Campbell, Danny Louis and Josh Dion would be a blast but to actually play music with these talented musicians is dream come true”
